May creekin for hatteras blues

Had the chance to get a good friend out fishing for big bluefish on bear creek this year for his first ever bluefish from the kayak.
We were paddling native's Redfish 12's they handle very well in small creeks and are a great budget minded kayak with the feel of more expensive yaks.
Colin and i headed to the creek on the end of the outgoing tide in an area i knew would hold some of these brutes, our rods we were useing were penn battles 3000 series with 10 pound power braid with 3/0 circle hooks and big chunks of mullet as fresh as i could catch.
It didn't take long for Colin to hook up his first fish of about 12 pounds and after a few strong runs and some leaps he finally lands his first Hatteras bluefish.
By the time we finished fishing for a few hours with the change of the tide we ended the day with 5 huge blues well over 60 pounds of fish and one happy marine.

Today was an awesome day for me and a good friend and brother,we headed out in our Native Watercraft Red Fish 12 and set out into the marshes of North Carolinas coast in search of some great fighting red fish.
We didn't have to paddle too far and got onto a great school of reds.
I started by throwing a top water lure the Heddon spook altered by me with pink spray paint and it didnt take long for the fish to show me they were ready to get onto some top water action.

Andy wasn't far behind with a great 23 inch red drum  on a power team JP Hammer Shad 3.6 in bubble gum flash

A little while later Andy would score his very first top water red on a Heddon spook painted pink

I managed my personal best drum so far this year on a Power Team JP Hammer 3.6 in Money color at 27 1/4 inches

We ended the evening with over 30 drum landed on artificial lures and had an awesome time on the water, things are looking like a great start for the 2014 season of kayak fishing with  NCPierman Outdoor Adventures LLC

March Madness 2014

March madness continues here in eastern NC,had the chance to get on the water with some great people this month and chase the red drum around a bit.
This month alone i have personally seen at least 400+ red drum caught from the kayak's and been on the bent rod end of a lot of them including my very first red drum on a fly.
Me and a friend of mine Eddie (yakattack flyflinger) Manning got the chance to hit a creek where i have been following a school of slot size drum around.
Eddie wanted to try a fly rod drum so he asked me what fly i told him a pink and white clouser should do but the hole was close to 10 ft deep and he had to get the fly way down low.
With a sinking line and a beaded fly he began to toss his fly to the opposite side of the creek where i suggested he should try and on about his fourth try Red on,after landing it it was close to 21 inches not huge but a respectable red for sure.
Eddie asked me if i would like to try and even though i was dieing to i really didn't want to because i knew if i caught the addiction of a fly rod red would be fueled with that hook up.
14 years of living here and never trying it i finally broke down and gave in to the lure of the long rod and all it has to offer,on my 3rd or 4th cast i was finally hooked up onto my first red drum fly rod fish, again not huge close to 20 inches but my very first.
We ended the day fishing cut baits and landing close to 30 drum from 2 holes and it was truly a great day with a great friend, one i look forward to doing again soon.

                                                     Native Watercraft  Slayer 14.5

                                                        Kayak Fishing at its finest

I have personally been kayaking for a lot of years from sit inside kayaks to the newer more stable and well designed sit on top kayaks, from perceptions to pelican and many others.
Way back when i started in kayaking it was for fun just paddling around on the waters seeing the sites,as i had gotten better i decided to sit and fish one problem was my sit in side kayak offered little to no place to use a fishing rod and store it.
I made do with what i had and learned to catch fish from them with ease,as the years went by i was watching other kayak makers start making fishing kayaks and i opted for a fishing kayak version from pelican,it was still a sit inside kayak but now had added rod holders.
I had gotten away from kayak fishing since nothing i was trying was what i wanted and ended up buying a Jon boat that solved my problems and i went on catching fish.
A few years ago i had gotten interested once again in kayak fishing and there now was way more options for fishing from them,i looked at perception and pelican as well as wilderness and Hobie but the one that caught my eye was a blue redfish 12 made by heritage kayaks now owned by Native.
I have fished from my redfish 12 for around 5 years and loved it ,but the down fall to me was the seating in it,after hours of fishing on the water, my back would be killing me but non the less i was fishing.
From the redfish 12 i went to the redfish 14 and once again was in heaven, seating was better and i had a ton more room,Native had gone way above my expectations with making this kayak, sad part was the redfish 14 had been done away with and had been replaced by the manta ray 14,this kayak is similar to the redfish 14 but upgraded nicely with a thick comfortable seat and more stability, the seating would allow people to sit non stop for hours with comfort which is an added plus in my books.

Native wasn't done impressing me or the many followers they have with there quality kayaks, always improving and listening to the People and what they wanted in a kayak, after a few years they now came out with the Native Slayer 14.5.
The seating is top notched  and to me the best on the market,if it is comfort you want this kayak has it all, plenty of storage uncluttered deck for standing while fishing ,high low seating with a reclining back rest.
The weight of the slayer is 73 pounds and has a wheel attached to the rear for easy carrying by one person, simple lift by the handle in front and the rear will roll along with you with ease, the added gear tracks are a definite plus since it made it a lot easier to add gear on the track where you don't need to put screws in the plastic as well as what ever you add can be moved around with ease.
i am 50 years old and i can handle the kayak alone any time i take it out it is 30 inches wide making for a very stable platform to stand and fish from,it moves on the water with the ease of a light paddle stroke, turning it is no problem at all,it is not a Fast kayak by any means and was built with a fisherman from all classes and ability's in mind.
I use my slayer on moving waters and calm waters as well as in the surf it is a great all around kayak in my opinion and i could not ask for anything better.
Native has taken it a step further with the slayer propel which i can not attest to but from what i see and hear this is a kayak fisherman's dream with forward and reverse peddling making it one of a kind with all the enmities as the slayer 14.5 ,comfort, stability, stand ability and mostly fish ability, this new kayak will allow hands free fishing along with the ability to go further in less time and keep you on your spots where the fish are chewing a lot longer.
When you can get a chance or if interested in a Native kayak demo contact your local dealers and see what they have to offer or contact http://nativewatercraft.com and see what they have to offer,i can almost say you will not be disappointed in the least bit,or contact me at https://www.facebook.com/NCPIERMAN3 and i'll do my best to let you demo my native slayer 14.5

took the slayer out tonite for a bit to do some much needed drummin with top water, wasn't looking to promising with the clouds starting to move in as i headed out,but out i went lol.
looked around a few holes after getting some bait and didn't see much so i kept paddling around, first storm missed me and cleared off with a slight sprinkle then nothing.
waters calmed some what and i headed into a friendly looking cove as the clouds and winds started to pic up once again,i wasn't scared lol i started to throw the top dog jr as the clouds got darker and darker then my phone rings William Nichols Jr. calls me to tell me its pouring at his house lol Jake Boudman called me earlier and said the same thing ......................me i said the fish are wet why should i be any different lol.
as i'm talking to nick and heading further in this cove i start to see flashing light so now i'm getting nervous and i still haven't gotten my drum, still talking to nick i throw and turn my head looking at the light show and wham drum on;)
in the yak never took the plug out of its mouth and started to paddle back quick while talking to nick meausre on the bank at 20 inches ;)

ing pics of the storm chasing me off the water lol,so one drum landed and netted and a storm from hell moving in fast but no SKUNK  20 INCHER IN FOR DINNER,and the rod holders are great as well as my new 2 in one lure box

Ok, WOW is all i can say and thank you lord for the awesome day on the water with a disabled desert storm veteran and his wife as well as my loveing wife Ruthie Wilbur whom was so very helpful to me and our guest.
i was truely humbled and honored to be in this mans presents today,he has been out of his home minimal at best over the last 9 or so years mainly for doctor visits.
i was contacted by Don Gray from M.A.D who was contacted by Jerry Dilsaver to see about getting this veteran out and on the water,i was honored and proud to say yes.
wasnt sure how i was gonna do it but i pulled a seat out of my boat to make room for his wheel chair, that was no problem my main concern was how to get him in the boat chair and all.
luckally the ramp at shell rock is a perfect ramp that sits level with my boat no matter how high the water is since it floats.
we met above my house at 9 am and went to the launch put the boat in got him in no problem and boarded everyone else and off we went slowly down the I.C.W to queens creek.
we hit the first of holes and put out some lines and it didnt take long and he was hooked up on his first fish of the day that would shock us all 3 never heard of a triple tail and i had only ever saw them in pics
the triple tail was only 10 5/8ths but it was his first ever and his first fish in 12 years,to which i contactedHunters Haven Taxidermy and arranged for it to be mounted, this is a fish of a life time for him since he would probably never get out to where they actually are and gery thank you for the fast response and great price i know he is gonna love it
that was the first fish lol the first red to hit his line was a 24 inch red drum that put his will to the test and even though he only has partial movement of his right side and a little help from me holding the rod slightly for him he landed the brute,he would catch 2 more in this hole all from 21 to 22 inches
it slowed there so we went up to a spot i call the sand pit and set up where we caught a stingray and broke off 3 or 4 drum on oyster rocks,so we moved to my honey hole and i told david why i called it the honey hole as we were pulling in.
i said this is the honey hole simply named because i can catch drum there when i cant catch them any where else,i said i can put baits against the bank and within 5 minutes we will have a drum on;)
2 lines in and within the 5 minutes we were there im talking to his wife i see him reach and start reeling and low and behold he is hooked up to a good fish, now i tag drum out on queens creek and other area's but yet to see one of them recaught, well god had a hand in giving david his best drum of the day a tagged 29 inch drum that i had tagged 2 months ago at 28.5 inches.
we were still one drum shy of a limit of 4 and by the time i cut the tag off this drum and retagged it and let it back on its way david was hooked up with another drum ,and his words were after the 29 he was done
landed the last fish and it came in at 21 inches, totally and happy david had had enough and we were on our way back to the launch,4 drum one tripple tail and a very happy veteran who deserved to have a day like today.

Had an awesome time this weekend out on the boat with a few friends to catch some redfish once again, had a good friend joel and his wife shauna out on the QUEENS REVENGE.
This would be shauna's first time chaseing reds with me ,joel has been with me many of times with the kayaks and has picked up red drum fishing very well in the last few months,he has actually finished 3rd place in his first kayak tourney and is looking foward to more in the future.
on this day we ended up catching 9 drum between us from 17 3/4 inches to 21 inches, nothing really impressive but a great time for shaun's first time drummin.
We used cut and live fresh finger mullets on a carolina rig with half ounce sinkers and 3/0 circle hooks, started off with cut mullet and when they stopped eating that we started throwing live mullet and kept catching fish.
Her first drum was 19 inches and pulled like the devil in shallow water, her biggest was right around 21 inches,i was glad to have friends out and watch another drum addict be born.

thanks for comming out my friends im truely glad ya'll got to enjoy my life even if for just a short time look foward to doing it again soon.
